Our values

As a community of disciples on a journey together, we hold these commitments at the centre of our shared life:

We commit to Jesus

We respond to the love of God demonstrated through the life, death and resurrection of Christ. With the help of the Spirit, we follow Jesus, seeking to know him better as friend, Saviour and Lord. We share his love and welcome with friends, those we struggle to understand, and people on the edges of society.

As we follow Jesus together, we will live out our values as a community:

We value peace

We commit to working for peace and reconciliation in our own lives, in our church community and in our neighbourhood and world.

We value creativity

We commit to creating opportunities for people to explore spirituality and faith through creative expression - poetry, art, music and drama.

We value justice

We commit to seeking justice and working against oppression so that all may flourish.

We need each other to grow in the likeness of Christ in every aspect of our lives.

By holding on to faith and taking risks together, we help each other and become the people of God we are called to be. We invite anyone who wants to make these commitments to journey with us.

Once a year, we covenant together by saying these words to each other and God, and then praying together:

With joy and gratitude to God who has called us by name, who has given us the life-giving, guiding, and empowering Spirit we commit ourselves to following Jesus Christ, through whom God has begun the work of reconciling the world and all creation, and in whom we find faith, hope and love. Jesus, you are the Way: guide us on our journey.

“Blessed are the peacemakers”, Jesus said, “for they will be called children of God.” As we follow Jesus, we commit to working through our conflicts and difficulties with love, patience and grace. We commit to being peace-makers and peace-seekers. Jesus, you are the Way: guide us on our journey.

“Love each other as I have loved you”, Jesus said. We commit ourselves to each other and this gathering of fellow travellers. We commit to loving and caring for each other, seeking to build each other up. We commit to sharing our time, our resources, our sorrows and joys, our doubt and faith. Jesus, you are the Way: guide us on our journey.

“I am the Lord, the Maker of all” says the Lord, we celebrate the beauty and diversity of the created world. We are dedicated to creating space for creative expression in our shared life, celebrating our unique gifts and how we can contribute to our community. As we follow Jesus, we commit to having soft hearts and open hands, to experience moments of beauty, awe, and revelation. Jesus, you are the Way: guide us on our journey.

“Here I am”, says the Lord when we cry for help. God is merciful and just - God sets the oppressed free, God says that the least and smallest ones are the most important. As we follow Jesus, we commit ourselves to the way of the cross, to be seekers of justice and healing in a world of oppression, conflict and brokenness. We commit to sharing the good news with those who are poor and joyful liberation for all people. Jesus, you are the Way: guide us on our journey.

Amen
